Hunted in the Wild

Hunted in the Wild

You've never really had a good relationship with sleeping. Whether it's because you've dedicated yourself to work or you can't shake the nightmares, a restful night's slumber has long eluded you. Surprising, then, the last thing you can remember before waking up among the underbrush was your eyelids getting heavy, carrying you into a deep dreamless slumber. That was ten days ago now, and when you awoke you found yourself in an immense forest - with the most strange plants you've ever seen. Venus fly traps with human teeth. Poison Ivy with dart frogs for leaves. Breadstick Bushes. A log that tells unspeakable truths.

At first, you were sure you were finally asleep - or at least hallucinating. Maybe you'd been exposed to some kind of psychedelics. Maybe it was a government experiment? For a while you'd tried to wait it out, but as the hours turned into days and your hunger began to grow you realized it wasn't a dream or a bad trip.

Exploring your surroundings, you found enough "normal" flora and water to sustain yourself (the pasta vines were interesting, and mildly unsettling). Slowly you encountered others who were in the same situation, all telling a similar story of how they'd arrived in this place. You began to understand your situation and started working on a way to return home.

Five days ago, they appeared. The local "fauna". At first, it was just a glance - you would spot them off in the distance as you made your way along the forest floor, looking for escape. It wasn't until the first arrow pierced the heart of one of your companions that you realized that you weren't merely being observed - you were being hunted. This forest is the hunting grounds, and you are the prey.

Over the intervening days, you've ran and hidden, and avoided the traps that they've left for you. Off in the distance you can see what appears to be a city, and for some reason you cannot quite consciously understand you know this to be your escape. It's at least a day's journey away, maybe more, but it's your only hope. Can you make it to the edge of the forest and escape your pursuers? Do you try to take the fight to them? There's no right answer in the forest beyond your dreams. Good luck.

Areas of Note: Babbling Brook of Blood, The Great Horned Tree, A "simple" clearing, Edge of the Forest, The Inverted City, Escape

Goal: Evade your pursuers long enough to make it to the edge of the city and find a way to escape this nightmare.
