Psyche

Psyche

Ten Days Ago, the light went out. The woman's body went limp as she fell to the kitchen floor. Her husband rushed her to the hospital, where she was hooked up to machines that beeped to the rhythm of her weakening heartbeat. Tests were run, but the doctors could find nothing wrong. But you know what's wrong. You are her. Well, part of her, anyway. A fractured fragment of her fraying consciousness.

You were barely aware in the first few days after the incident, your senses slowly growing stronger as she grew weaker. As you became aware of yourself, you realized there were others there with you. Parts of her. Anger, Sorrow, Joy, Hope, Love, Fear. All of the emotions that make up a person - all together. For a time.

Five days ago, they appeared. Manifestations of her trauma. Of her worries. Stress. All of the weights tied to her soul, dragging her into the abyss. Their touch corrupts - several of your fellows have already fallen to their influence, and with each change her body slips closer to death.

Her breath grows shallow now. You've been hiding in the deepest reaches of her most vivid memories. The site of her first kiss. The basement where she found her father's body. The first frost of the season, the day when her husband proposed. They're growing closer now, you can't hide from them forever. But, as even joy began to falter you saw her. The girl. She fled when you noticed her - down further into her soul.

She is the key. The core of her being. If you and the others who remain can just reach her, you know you can pull her back from the brink. You don't know if she'll ever be whole again, but you do know you can save her. You have to save her. Save yourself. You cannot let her down.

Play Notes: This is a scenario of deep psychological horror. Your Virtue and Vice can still be anything you want them to be, representing two sides to a given element of the woman - but your Concept should be directly related to a core emotion. Try to tie that emotion to the Virtue and Vice. For example if you're the manifestation of her Joy your Virtue might be "Selfless" and Vice may be "Reckless". When you pass the virtue and vice, you're blending her emotions together. You are each the best and worst of her.

They can be anything, but they should be personifications of the woman's past traumas. Some are small, little things - others are larger, more dangerous. A lighter version of this scenario sees the psyche fragments succeed, but be killed in the process - saving her at the cost of themselves. The darkest version of this scenario is the fragments of her psyche failing to restore the woman. In this variant, consider playing the sound of a heartbeat faltering and then flat lining instead of the usual game ending chant.

Areas of Note: The school playground where she was bullied, The site of her first kiss, the basement where she found her father's body, the day he proposed, her mother's funeral

Goal: Follow the girl through her memories and rejoin with her at the core.
